Friday February 26 2016 ~~ Day 1 Part 2
The malecón is a very scenic area, especially at sunset…
Looking across to Castillo de Los Tres Reyes del Morro….
Fishermen lined up along the malecon….they are fly-casting
so watch out when you walk by!
These guys were walking and rapping, recording with an
iPhone….
We saw numerous dogs with these tags on them…not sure what
they were for…
The malecón is the place to be….
There was a fellow trying to get us to go to this restaurant
for dinner, Nazdarovie….we didn’t, but after reading reviews and realizing what
a great view it must have, we will have to try it next time!
Perfect ending to a great first day…
Not sure if this was a movie recording…..
Huge tanker heading out….
We run across 4 lanes of traffic and start heading home. I didn’t see an official sign but I think this is Parque de
los Enamorados…
He was playing his trumpet…
Sweet little gato….
And all his hungry friends…
One of my favourite photos from our trip….
Cienfuegos, Fidel Castro and Che
Museo de la Revolución….we’ll tour here on Sunday…
Home sweet home….
We clean up a bit and then head just a few feet down the
street to a restaurant recommend by Maylú… Trattoria 5 Esquinas…
It’s a small restaurant inside but there are also tables
outside. Since it’s a bit cool
this evening, we’re happy to find a table inside. Service is prompt and friendly. Excited to have our first meal in Cuba! Vince is happy to have his first Cuban
cerveza…
Vince orders a vegetable soup, and we share a ‘Cuatro
Estaciones’ pizza. We added ham to
it, got charged for it, but it wasn’t on the pizza. Oh well…It was so delicious anyway!! The tip was added to the bill….it was a conservative
10%....we tipped more.
For about $30 Canadian, it was a good meal….2 cervezas, 1 water, pizza
and soup, and tip.
We sat next to a wonderful German lady, Dorette and her
Cuban husband, Michel. They said this was the best place to
have pizza in Havana. She told us
of many places to see…more than we would have time for! Very helpful information. They were in the midst of renovating
their house in Vedado into a casa particular.
Across from the restaurant…renovation/restoration in
progress…
Time for bed….tomorrow, música y mojitos!
